Determine your correct size BEFORE YOU ORDER:

"I have always worn a size __ "
"All the other shirts in my closet are a size __"
"My last shirts were a size __"
These are the famous last words of a pilot
who will be returning shirts because he thought he knew his size... |

Measuring for Size:
The best and easiest method to determine your correct collar size is to measure the
collar of a shirt that fits you comfortably. IMPORTANT: Ignore the
size marked in the shirt. Many dress shirts and some pilot shirts are oversized,
so a shirt marked 16 1/2 may actually measure 17" or more in the collar! As illustrated below, lay the collar flat and measure from the center of the button to the end of
the buttonhole. That measurement is the shirt collar size. In our example, the
collar measures 17", so you should order a size 17 pilot shirt. If the measurement is between sizes (for
example: 16
3/4"), order the next larger size. |

You can also determine your collar size by measuring your neck as
described below. Remember, however, that
the collar size alone does not guarantee that the body of the shirt will fit you.
You'll also need to take your chest and waist measurements and compare them with the numbers in our
Fit Charts. If you are ordering long sleeve shirts you'll also need to measure your sleeve length. |
|
|
 To measure neck,
wrap tape comfortably around base of neck where collar normally sits. Then add 1/2" to your measurement to determine the
collar size. Alternatively, measure base of neck with two fingers
inside the tape, the result is your collar size. The collar must be larger than your
neck to allow for a comfortable fit. |
 Chest is measured in inches
all the way around upper body, directly under
armpits. Measure over a T-shirt if you normally wear one
under your uniform shirt. Waist is measured
in inches around fullest part of belly. Do NOT go by your pants size. |
 To measure long sleeve length,
start from center back of neck and measure across shoulder, down arm, around elbow
to wrist; Number of inches = Sleeve Length (please allow for up to 1/2" of sleeve
shrinkage) |
 The tail length of
our shirts is measured from the base of the collar, down the middle
of the back to the bottom of the tail. |
|
Using our
Fit Charts Start with your collar size
as determined above and read across the chart. If your chest or waist measurement
exceeds the corresponding values in the Fit Chart, you
will need to order a larger size or a fuller cut shirt. Using the charts below for
example: If your collar size is 16 1/2 and your chest
measures 44" or your waist measures 36", you will not fit into a TOFS 16
1/2. Instead, you must go to a TOFS 17 or an ROFS 16 1/2. |

Before you order shirts, please consider:
The body of a shirt is proportional to it's collar size. In general, as you go
up by 1/2" in collar size, you gain about 2" around the chest and 1-3"
around the waist (depending on style).
Many dress shirts have oversized collars and are cut fuller than uniform shirts,
so don't be surprised if you need a larger size when ordering your pilot shirts. One
brand of shirt will fit differently than another brand, even if they are the same collar
size. This is particularly true of our Pilot House Tapered shirts which are much trimmer in
the waist than other shirts.
Although size is primarily determined by neck measurement, you may need to order a larger size if you
have a large chest, large waist or broad shoulders.
If you've put on a few pounds or are looking back at 40, you may need to go up a size since your last order.
You may need to order a larger size or roomier cut if you wear a T-shirt underneath your uniform shirt.
When in doubt, order the next larger size. 85% of our shirt exchanges are for a larger size or
a roomier cut.
Remember to allow for some shrinkage that will occur after repeated laundering. Typically a high cotton shirt will shrink,
over time, up to 1/2" in the collar and 1/2" on a long sleeve. Conversely, the body of the shirt may actually stretch a bit
wider over time. If a new, unlaundered shirt fits you perfectly right out of the package, it will probably be too tight after several launderings.
Do not expect that a brand new shirt purchased today will look or fit identically to
a shirt purchased previously. Your old shirts have shrunk and stretched
repeatedly out of their original shape, like an old pair of jeans does over time.
Although we offer a very large selection of shirts in various fits, fabrics and pocket styles, we can't offer every
possible combination. Therefore, some compromise may be required (or be prepared to pay a tailor $75-100 per shirt for custom
made shirts).
Always examine and try on your new shirts upon receipt, PRIOR TO LAUNDERING or packing for a trip,
even if you previously purchased the same item. We can't promise a perfect fit for every body but we do have a
30 Day
Return Policy on unused, unlaundered items.
